Reduce the amount dust created in your work space by more than 1/2 compared to shaping a stock blank.
I noticed AKU has changed their default view-it's pretty neat now with the nose-to-tail shading and the 1' checkerboard pattern you can turn on for background-also they have the smooth rendering of the outline-forgot what that's called. If AKU has a screen where it shows the dimensions, you could transfer those measurements directly to some Masonite sheets and cut. You can do a print screen on your computer to capture your shape from AKU.

The two most critical aspects of good surfboard performance are done for you on our thermal CNC thermal hotwire cutter so you don't have to stress about shaping it right.ģ. To provide some detail about editing this shape, you can select the inner shape, ungroup and then enter ‘Edit Nodes’ mode to adjust a vector path - add nodes, delete, join, extend, and/or trim a path, even change the state of node (s) (smooth, corner, smooth curve to line, etc.) from there to create the shape you are after. IMO the printing in boardcad is a big improvement over the printing in aps3000/aku. From AutoCAD I can plot/print a full size template on my own plotter.

Now you don't need to master how to use a power tool on a bunch of wonky shapes before you are actually able to shape correctly.Ģ. No power planer needed! Say goodbye the needless action of planing the blank to thickness which has been the standard waste of time for the past 70 years. So why Design your own custom close tolerance blanks?ġ. We totally understand the shaping learning curve and have made it easy to shape your design into foam. Surfboard Design is easy with a little knowledge, the shaping part is a little harder. Design is how well the board performs, Shaping is sculpting an accurate hydrodynamic form of the design.
Surfboards can now be duplicated and sold on a much larger scale which may change how surfboards are sold in the long run.Custom Close Tolerance Blank Cutting Charge from AKU Shaper Fileĭesigning a surfboard and Shaping a surfboard are two different things. Also they have introduced modifications as of May 2008 (self oiling feature, raised machine and high tension tungsten cutter). The company offers updates for their programs so that clients can have their machine running smoothly and up to date. Robert August is a well known shaper out of Huntington Beach who still shapes all his boards by hand giving each board a special feel rather than a machine made duplicate. While before no board was exactly the same as another. An issue with the Aku Shaper among shapers is the fact that each board is now the same. Since it can be used with so many types of systems it gives the Aku Shaper company a wider market to sell their products to. #GET OUTLINE FROM IMAGE AKU SHAPER MAC OS#
The Aku shaper is compatible with Windows, MAC OS X, and GNU Linux operating systems. So if a surfer broke a board that he or she really like they can go to the shaper and have the Aku Shaper Machine shape the same exact board if it has been stored on that computer. By using this computer technology to sync up to the computer a shaper can use a shape that they have stored onto the computer. The Aku Shaper is a machine that can shape a surfboard from the measurements that the shaper puts into the program. The Aku Shaper was invented in the 1980’s but never ready for use until mid 2003 when its inventor, Mike Rickard, was happy with his product.
The tools became more advanced but the way to go about shaping a surfboard never really changed. Until the Aku Shaper was invented, the methodology of shaping surfboard had remained the same. Foam let surfboard shapers create a design for their boards much easier then use the fiberglass to make it structurally sound. I lightly spritz the paper beforehand with some spray adhesive and use that to tack the sheets down. I assemble the pages together by taking a long piece of butcher paper, folding it lengthwise and lining the stringerline on the template pages along the crease. Add another outline to your shape by clicking Stroke. Print on legal paper with the grid to line things up. By introducing fiberglass surfers could use a lighter material for the inside part of their boards. In the Layers tab on the right, make sure you’ve got the shape layer selected. Once surfing was brought to the islands of Hawaii, the surfboard began to undergo some changes to make it lighter and more maneuverable. The first surfboards were just pieces of bark ripped off of trees and shaped using canoe tools into a surfboard shape.
